Dharamshala: - The spiritual leader of Tibet His Holiness the Dalai Lama met Mr. Kiren Rijiju, union minister of state for Home Affairs and Mr K.K Pathak, joint secretary of Home affairs, Government of India on December 2.
According to the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), His Holiness the Dalai Lama expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Government of India, particularly to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the concern officials who worked to formalise the policy guideline "The Tibetan Rehabilitation policy, 2014."
The meeting took place in New Delhi, the capital of India on November 24 and was coordinated by Ms Dolma Gyari, Kalon for the Department of Home of the CTA.
During the meeting Mr K.K Pathak apprised His Holiness the Dalai Lama on his recent visit to the Tibetan community in remote Changtang areas in Ladakh with Home Kalon Dolma Gyari. He informed His Holiness on the current situation and developmental plans for a better living conditions to the people of Changtang.
Briefing the home secretary on some major problems faced by the administration in the Tibetan settlements and submitted a memorandum during her visit to New Delhi in October. Ms Dolma Gyari apprised the Indian Home Ministry officials of important issues relating to the Tibetan refugees in India.
Mr Rijiju expressed his appreciation for the Tibetan administration’s efforts in proper rehabilitation of the Tibetan refugees in India.
Secretary Mr Anil Goswami expressed happiness on meeting the Tibetan delegation and receiving updates on Tibetan refugees. He assured that the problems discussed during the meeting shall be looked into and addressed accordingly.
Kalon Dolma Gyari also expressed her deep gratitude to the government and people of India for their long-standing support for Tibetans over the last fifty years.
CTA recently said 'the Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy 2014, formalised on 20 Oct 2014, comes at a time when the Government of India found that the level of assistance/facilities extended by the various State Governments is not uniform.'
As such, after due consultations with the concerned State Governments and the inter-ministerial consultations at the Government of India level, the policy guidelines were laid down in order to bring a uniformity across all the States and to improve the general satisfaction level of the Tibetan refugees, CTA's home department further said.
