Dharamshala:- A book on self immolations in Tibet by a Tibetan parliamentarian in exile is launched on November 27, 2014.
The book is published by Tibetan Parliamentary and Policy Research Center and was released at Nyatri Hall, Central Tibetan Administration with Speaker of Tibetan Parliament in Exile as the chief guest.
“As a colleague at Tibetan Parliament in Exile, I have seen Jayang Soepa taking great interest in collecting information through his sources and documenting them ," said Penpa Tsering, the speaker of Tibetan parliament in exile.
“The spate of self immolations is fresh in the memory of this generation of Tibetans -- their feelings, despair and struggle. And with the help of this book, future generations and researchers could access this book and use this as a definitive source of information regarding self immolations.
“I would encourage the translation of this book into English and Chinese and approach reputed publishers to reach wider audience.”
The book which is now available in Tibetan language and it documents all the incidents of self immolations in Tibet and in Exile.
In a press release issued by the author, he said that the book hopes to 'reveal facts about the self immolations' and how 'the family members and their communities' were affected.
The Author of the book also spoke at the book launch and he said: “Tibetan self immolation is a new phenomenon among Tibetans as a new form of protest.
“Self immolations among Tibetans is political and is not unique to Tibetans. In this book to tried to draw the parallels and contradictions between self immolations in Tibet and in other parts of the world.
“In future, from 50 to 100 years, anyone who wants to study about our struggle could get hold of this book and get all the information regarding the self immolations."
