His Holiness the Dalai Lama ffers aid to flood-hit Kerala State of India

Dharamshala, India — The spiritual leader of Tibet, His Holiness Dalai Lama has extended help in relief work for those affected by floods due to incessant rains in Kerala. The Nobel Peace Laureate expressed condolences towards the families of the people who died in the calamity.

His Holiness Dalai Lama, in a letter to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, said he was saddened at the loss of life and devastation of property as well as the hardship caused to many people due to unprecedented floods in various parts of the state.

“I appreciate that every effort is being made to rescue those affected and that relief efforts are underway. As a mark of my solidarity with the people of Kerala, I am making a donation from the Gaden Phodrang Trust of the Dalai Lama towards relief and rescue efforts,” he said.

“I offer my condolences to you, to the families who have lost loved ones, and to all affected by the flooding,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that due to the massive rains in the state since August 8, the state has experienced the worst flood in a century causing death of hundreds of people while thousands have been displaced.

The death toll in the floods has risen to over 300 and over 3.14 lakh people had been rescued and relocated in relief camps.
