Dharamshala - In accordance with Imprisoned Writers Day celebrated internationally on November 15, the Tibetan Youth Association in Europe and the Students Network Tibet held a joint event called Forbidden Words - Jailed Writers in Tibet at the University of Zurich in Switzerland.
The workshop introduced contemporary Tibetan literature to young Tibetans and Non-Tibetans; poems and essays from well-known Tibetan writers such as Shokjang (Druklo) and Theurang (Tashi Rabten) were discussed with participants.
Organizers also highlighted political campaigns across the world demanding freedom for jailed Tibetan writers. The event included an exhibition with the biography and works of other Tibetan artists displayed.
The event's press release read, "For many Tibetans inside Tibet literature is a new way to express themselves freely. For exiled Tibetans modern Tibetan literature has opened a new window to Tibet and the minds of Tibetans inside Tibet. With this event we also want to stress the continuing persecution of artists inside Tibet. We highly condemn the imprisonment of Tibetan artists and demand from the Chinese government their immediate release."
