Dharamshala – His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet, met with a group of Muslim scholars from Malaysia, Sweden and the USA and His Holiness said," All religions may have different philosophies but all religions are unifying in the promotion of Karuna (compassion) and Ahimsa (peace).”

In the brief interaction with the scholars, His Holiness spoke of the promotion of religious harmony as one of his four main commitments for a peaceful and compassionate world. His Holiness said, "One of my commitments is to promote religious harmony, although the philosophies and views of religions may differ, they all carry the same message of Karuna."
"In my lifetime, the situation in Tibet has been difficult, but we have preserved Tibetan culture, and more and more people from the West and particularly from China are showing interest in Tibetan culture and Buddhism," His Holiness the Dalai Lama said.
"As human beings, we have to live on the same planet, we have to live together, we are brothers and sisters. In the name of religions, we don't need to fight against each other, whether you are a believer or not, we are still the same human beings, we have to live together," His Holiness said.
"Now, the population is growing and global warming is a serious issue. After a few decades, global warming will get worse, the planet could become very hot and human beings could no longer live on it, but until then, we live happily," the Nobel laureate said.
His Holiness also recalled the special bond between Muslims and Tibetans since the time of the Tibetan Empire, when the two communities were important trading partners. His Holiness said that the friendship between the two communities remains intact today.
