Miss-Tibet-North-America-2017New York — A young Tibetan girl from New York, Tenzin Chime was crowned Miss Tibet North America-2017 in a ceremony at Armenian Church - New York, NY, United States, on Saturday evening.

Pursuing a Nursing Degree at Laguardia community college in US, Chemi said: "Being a Buddhist and a follower of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, compassion is in my blood which is why I probably decided to choose the field of nursing."

Being in the Miss Tibet has been my long cherish dream, winning or losing doesn't matter, but what matters more for me is the experience and knowledge I would gain from this platform.

"I have this crown on me today not because I m perfect, but because of the people who help me to bring the best out of me," she said after winning the title. "We should live and do more for Tibet," Chime said, speaking about self-immolation protest in Tibet.

"I belief that beauty pageant is not only about the physical beauty. but it is an opportunity to highlight the value of inner beauty that is nurtured and reinforced by a variety of life experiences," the first runner-up, Tenzin Kunsang said, adding: "It is also a chance to be a role model and inspire young Tibetan Women".

"Every Tibetan has a national responsibility to highlight Tibet issue," the Founder & Director of Miss Tibet North America— Sunny Sonam he said, explaining that "this pageant is one of the avenues to create awareness about Tibet cause besides promoting empowerment of Tibetan women and girls on international stage in the 21st century."

"From this platform not only the contestants, but also the videographer to photographer. Make up artist and sound and light and new upcoming artist are getting platform too," Sonam added.
