Dharamshala — His Holiness the Dalai Lama was greeted by thousands of devotees and supporters upon his return to Dharamshala this morning, April 12th. Tibetans, Indians and others from all over the world waited in the streets from Gagal airport in Kangra to the lanes of Tsuglakhang temple in Mcleod Ganj to celebrate the spiritual leader’s return from the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
His Holiness was received at the airport by Speaker of Tibetan Parliament in exile Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and Tibetan political leader Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay.
His Holiness wrapped up his week-long teaching tour to Arunachal Pradesh and departed for Delhi yesterday from Tawang, where he reached on April 7th after traveling over 550 km from Assam’s Dibrugarh and crossing the 13,700 feet Sela Pass.
During his religious tour to Arunachal Pradesh, His Holiness consecrated the Thupsung Dhargyeling monastery at Dirang on April 6th. He also consecrated the Tara Temple ‘Dolma Lhagang’, Guru Padhmasambhava Statue cum Temple, and laid the foundation stone of Gyalwa Jamba statue to be built at Buri near the India-Bhutan border. His Holiness paid a visit to Ugyen Ling, the birthplace of sixth Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso.
Wrapping up the visit from Tawang before his departure, His Holiness the Dalai Lama thanked the Arunachal Pradesh government, in particular Chief Minister Pema Khandu, for making the visit ‘special’ and ‘memorable’ and promised to visit again to confer teachings.
Honorable Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu and other dignitaries saw him off at the Tawang helipad, ten thousands of ardent devotees from across the Himalayan region and Bhutan bid an emotional farewell to their revered spiritual leader.
His Holiness is scheduled to remain at his residence in Dharamshala until May when he has a series of teachings across Himachal Pradesh.
