Dharamshala – Young Tibetan Scientists Excel: 9 Talented Tibetan Students Receive Internships at National Science Research Centers in Pune and Bengaluru, India.
From June 15th to July 15th 2016 the fourth Research Internship Program for science graduates will be underway. During this period, 9 selected Tibetan students will be hosted at the National Center for Biological Sciences and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Bengaluru and Pune respectively.
The students attained these internships through a competitive selection process overseen by the Department of Education based on students' educational performance over time. The selected students will work on projects as wide-ranging as Biomedical Engineering; Neuroscience and its sub-disciplines; Computational fields including computational biology and -neuroscience; Microbiology; as well as Physical Science.
In a status report to the Department of Education, students reported excellent first-hand experience in different research and experimental skills related to their fields and sub-disciplines. In giving students a taste of the day-to-day working life of a professional researcher, such internships are fundamental in preparing successful future careers.
In addition to these advantages, being in the same working environment as other motivated students will be instrumental in forging future collaborative networks. Are such testimonies and opportunities evidence for a science education revolution in the Indian Tibetan community in exile?
