Dharamshala, September 13: - Based in Dharamsala India, the 'National Democratic Party of Tibet' (NDPT) on Saturday has urged the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi to raise the issue of Tibet with Chinese President Xi Jiping during his upcoming India visit.
In an open letter to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Gelek Jamyang President of NDPT has urged the Prime Minister to 'raise the issue of Tibet with Chinese President Xi Jiping, for the freedom of Tibet and in the interest of India's security as well as for the peace in the South Asian regions.'
"It is Xi Jinping's first state visit to India since his presidency and world must be watching the two Asian giant leaders' first historic meet," Gelek Jamyang said.
"India is the only country with whom Tibet shares deep-rooted cultural and religious ties. The historic relations between India and Tibet go back to the B.C 127," Jamyang said, adding "India is the only country in the world who understands Political Status and the real issue of Tibet with China."
Justifying China's invasion and occupation of Tibet, the group said "Tibet had lost more than 1.2 million people under China's oppressive rule and 130 Tibetans have self-immolated inside Tibet since 2009 to express in gravest form the disapproval of China's hardline policies in Tibet. It's has been more than five decades since His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and Tibetans remained in India and around the world as refugees."
"NDPT is honored to congratulate you on your party's historic electoral victory and your ascension as Foreign Minister of India. We are also deeply gladdened and express our gratitude for the invitation of our Prime Minister Dr. Lobsang Sangay to represent Tibetan people on your swearing-in ceremony," he added, saying: "The people of Tibet felt heavily honored by you."
The group says they believe that India has big role in building peace and prosperity in Asia and around the world, saying, "It is best opportunity for India to directly engage with China on Tibet issue and we have complete trust in the leadership of India."
As China's President Xi Jinping is slated to visit India from 17-19 September, 2014, NDPT say 'they humbly and urgently urge the Prime Minister to kindly make an effort to raise our issue with visiting Chinese leader and his Co. to resolve Sino-Tibet issue based on trust and mutual understanding.'
The letter was also sent to Indian External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Sawara. The group further added that they believe "India has big role in building peace and prosperity in Asia and around the world," saying, "It is best opportunity for India to directly engage with China on Tibet issue and we have complete trust in the leadership of India."
