New Delhi: - Tibetan activists staged a protest near the Taj Palace hotel in New Delhi, the Indian capital, where Chinese Premier Li Keqiang is currently staying.
Protestors unfurled a 20 foot long banner, which read "China out of Tibet, China out of India, Li Keqiang: Tibet will be free". The protestors were detained by Indian security personnel and shifted to a nearby police station.
Li Keqiang is in his first official visit to India, since taking over as China's Premier earlier this year.
Tenzin Tselha, Grassroots Director of Students for a Free Tibet in India, who organised the protest said that "only a lasting resolution to China's illegal occupation of Tibet can bring about a lasting solution to India's longstanding border issues with China".
She also said that the protests were aimed to "shame Li Keqiang over the ongoing crisis in Tibet and to challenge him to end China's failed policies that have driven 117 Tibetans to light their own bodies on fire in protest".
Dorjee Tseten, the National Director of Students for a Free Tibet in India also stated that "China's occupation of Tibet is not only a issue for 6 million Tibetans aspiring for freedom and human rights, but also a growing security issue for India". And that he hoped that the "Government of India will raise a lasting resolution for Tibet as a priority issue during these talks with China's new leadership".
