Bejing – Secretary of State Blinken met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Foreign Minister Qin Gang and Director Wang Yi during his most recent visit to Beijing. They discussed a range of issues, including human rights, and Blinken conveyed to top Chinese officials the deep concerns of the United States and the international community about China's human rights violations in Tibet, East Turkestan and Hong Kong.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Beijing, China on June 18 and 19, 2023. He met Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang on June 18, 2023. He then met Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and finally Chinese President Xi Jinping on June 19, 2023.
The top American and Chinese leaders discussed a range of topics and issues, such as trade, unfair treatment of US companies in China, regional and international security, bilateral and global issues, including Taiwan, Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, and human rights issues, including China's human rights violations in Tibet, East Turkestan and Hong Kong.
Secretary of State Blinken gave a press conference in Beijing after meeting President Xi Jingping and Foreign Minister Qin Gang, Blinken said: "In my meetings, I also discussed human rights. The United States and the international community remain deeply concerned about PRC human rights violations, including in Xinjiang (East Turkestan), in Tibet, and Hong Kong."
"We are clear-eyed about the challenges posed by the PRC. The United States will advance a vision for the future that we share with so many others: a free, open, stable, and prosperous world with countries upholding and updating the rules-based order that has for years safeguarded peace and security globally," the Secretary said at press conference.
Secretary said, "As we work to address our differences, the United States is prepared to cooperate with China in areas where we have mutual interests, including climate, macroeconomic stability, public health, food security, counternarcotics."
The Secretary reiterated that the United States will continue to use diplomacy to raise areas of concern and stand up for the interests and values of the American people.
