Dharamshala – His Holiness the Dalai Lama, spiritual leader of Tibet, congratulates Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on his re-election as President of Turkey. His Holiness said, “These are very challenging times. It is my hope that Turkey will continue to prosper and make a significant contribution to the peace and stability of our increasingly inter-connected world."

His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote a congratulatory letter to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on May 29, 2023, wishing him success in meeting the challenges ahead by responding to the wishes and aspirations of the Turkish people, especially the less privileged members of society.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama said in the letter, “These are very challenging times. It is my hope that Turkey will continue to prosper and make a significant contribution to the peace and stability of our increasingly inter-connected world."

“I pray that you will be successful in meeting the challenges that lie ahead in fulfilling the wishes and aspirations of the people of Turkey, especially the less privileged members of society,” the spiritual leader of Tibet said.

His Holiness concluded the letter by offering his prayers and best wishes.

Following the re-election of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as head of Turkey, congratulations were received from leaders around the world, including the USA, the UN, the EU, NATO, France, Germany, the UK, Sweden, Hungary, Ukraine, Russia, Brazil, India, Afghanistan and others.

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan serving as the 12th and current president of Turkey since 2014. He previously served as prime minister of Turkey from 2003 to 2014 and as mayor of Istanbul from 1994 to 1998. He is also the co-founder of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in 2001.
