Bodhgaya, Bihar, India – His Holiness the Dalai Lama, spiritual leader of Tibet, wrote to Lula da Silva to congratulate him on being sworn in again as President of Brazil on January 1, 2023, saying, "May I wish you every success in fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people of Brazil, and in contributing to the development of a happier, more peaceful world."

His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the new President of Brazil, to congratulate him on being sworn in as the 39th President of Brazil on January 1, 2023, and expressed his good wishes.

“I have had the opportunity to visit your country several times,I deeply appreciate the interest people from many walks of life have shown in my efforts to promote an appreciation of basic human values like warm-heartedness and concern for the well-being of our fellow brothers and sisters," His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote.

“I also very much appreciate your commitment to eliminating hunger, closing the gap between rich and poor as well as your efforts relating to climate change, particularly in terms of protecting the ecologically important Amazon forests," the spiritual leader of Tibet expressed.

“May I wish you every success in fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people of Brazil, and in contributing to the development of a happier, more peaceful world,” His Holiness the Dalai Lama stated.

His Holiness concluded his letter with prayers and good wishes for the New Year.

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, known as Lula, is a Brazilian politician, member of the Workers' Party, who has served as the 39th President of Brazil since 2023. He was previously the 35th President of Brazil from 2003 to 2010. Lula is the first Brazilian president to be elected for a third term.
