Sikyong congratulates Roberta Metsola, newly elected President of the European Parliament

Dharamshala, India —Penpa Tsering, Sikyong of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) congratulates Dr Roberta Metsola on being elected President of the European Parliament, the highest democratic institution in the European Union.

On January 25, 2022, Tsering wrote a letter to the new President of the European Parliament, Her Excellency Roberta Metsola, congratulating her on her election as President. Sikyong says, “under your leadership, we hope that the European Parliament will continue to actively support the speedy resolution of the Sino-Tibet conflict and help bring a definitive end to the sufferings of Tibetans in Tibet.”

“On behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan people, I extend our heartiest congratulations on your election as the President of the European Parliament,” he wrote in his congratulatory letter.

“The European Parliament has a longstanding association with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the people of Tibet, for which we remain deeply grateful. Furthermore, the European parliament’s commitment towards protecting human rights and democracy serves as a beacon of inspiration to many, including the Tibetans,” He further added.

“Today, as the very identity of the Tibetan people lies under systematic attack inside Tibet, the Tibetan people need the resolute support of the European Parliament and that of the international community ever more so than before,” Sikyong explained.

Sikyong expressed the hope that under her leadership the European parliament will continue to support the issue of Tibet, adding, “Under your leadership, we hope that the European parliament will continue to actively support the speedy resolution of the Sino-Tibet conflict and help bring a definitive end to the sufferings of Tibetans in Tibet.”

Sikyong concluded the letter by again expressing his congratulations and said, “Once again, I extend our heartiest congratulations and best wishes.”
