Dharamshala, India — The spiritual leader of Tibet, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has conveyed condolences to the government and people of Taiwan over the deaths and injuries caused by the Train crash in Hualien, east coast of Taiwan on April 2, 2021.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote to Tsai Ing-wen, the President of Taiwan on April 3, 2021, to offer his sympathy and deepest condolences after a Train crash in Hualien caused around 51 death and 188 injured.
“I am deeply saddened by reports of yesterday's train crash near Hualien in which at least 50 people were killed and many more injured. I would like to offer my condolences to Your Excellency and to those families who have lost loved ones and others affected by this most unfortunate accident,” His Holiness the Dalai Lama said.
“The Taiwanese people have been close to my heart. When incidents like this occur, it is as if a calamity has befallen all of us,” His Holiness concluded.
According to media reports, Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen expressed her gratitude to His Holiness the Dalai Lama for his concern and blessings for Taiwan and prayed that the power of religion can soothe the pain.
The derailment of the Taroko train in Hualien, Taiwan was the worst accident in 73 years. More than 50 people were killed and 188 were injured.
