Dharamshala — His Holiness the Dalai Lama has accepted an invitation to attend the anniversary celebration of the Tibet Rikon Institute in Switzerland in September 2018.

“We are very grateful for the fact that His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama has accepted our invitation and will actively participate in various events that will be held in Rikon, Winterthur and Zürich from September 21 through September 24, 2018,” the organizers said on their website.

The four-day anniversary events will begin with opening and religious ceremonies. The Buddhist leader will give teachings on Nagarjuna’s Precious Garland of the Middle Way (uma rin-chen treng-wa), Kamalashila’s Middling Stages of Meditation and Thokme Sangpo’s “37 Practices of a Bodhisattva” on September 23.

On the last day on September 24, the Nobel Laureate will partake in a symposium “Universal Human Values and Education,“ jointly organized by ZHAW (Zurich University of Applied Sciences), the Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama and the Tibet Institute Rikon.

Tibet Rikon Insitute is located in the Töss Valley in Switzerland where many Tibetan immigrants have settled. The foremost Buddhist monastery in Switzerland is registered as a non-profit foundation due to Swiss laws from the 19th century secularization movement that prohibits establishment of new monasteries.

The visit to Europe is the first overseas schedule for the Tibetan leader that is announced officially since the Tibetan leader made public his intention to cut down on foreign trips last November when he cited fatigue during the long flights. The Tibetan leader also cancelled some of his trips to the United States and India in the last few months.
