Paris — Nyima Lhamo, niece of late Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, met with members of the Tibet Group in the French Senate on December 7th during a tour of European to lobby the international community and speak on the circumstances leading to the death in prison of her Uncle.
Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche was a noted Tibetan religious leader and scholar, who was arrested in 2002 on alleged charges of terrorism and sentenced to life imprisonment following what human rights activists have called an unfair trial. In 2015, as his health was rapidly declining, Chinese authorities failed to release him on medical parole and he passed away under suspicion circumstances while in custody.
From the French Senate, Senator Michel Raison, President of the Tibet Group, Senator Andre Gattolin, Vice President and Senator Bernard Fournier, a member of the group received the Tibetan delegation. Tenzin Sonam of the EU and Human Rights Desk of the Department of Information and International Relations, CTA along with Rigzin Choedon, the EU Advocacy Officer, Tsering Dhondup, Secretary of the Bureau du Tibet, Paris and Melanie Blondelle from International Campaign for Tibet, Brussels, accompanied Nyima Lhamo to the breakfast meeting.
Thierry Munier, Administrative Secretary of the Tibet Group, Jeremy Calohard, Administrative Secretary of the Tibet Group in the National Assembly and Ms Charlotte Braud, Parliamentary Assistant to Mr Raison also took part in the meeting.
Senator Michel Raison informed the delegation about the workings of the Tibet Groups in the Senate and National Assembly, and made special reference to the question he had raised in the French Parliament about Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche.
Nyima Lhamo recounted the circumstances surrounding the death of her uncle Tulku Tenzin Rinpoche, and the events leading to his arbitrary arrest and unjust imprisonment by the Chinese authorities and sought help in finding out the truth behind the actual cause of the death of her uncle at the hands of Chinese authorities.
The French Parliamentarians were deeply touched by the ordeal that she and her family had endured during the past many years, and asked for ways they could help her in alleviating their suffering.
Nyima Lhamo will be in Paris for next one week during which she is scheduled to meet French Tibet supporters, French officials and members of Tibetan community.
The current tour is jointly organised by the Bureau du Tibet, Brussels, International Campaign for Tibet and coordinated in France by the Bureau du Tibet, Paris.
