New York — His Holiness the Dalai Lama recently underwent knee surgery and his doctors said that he was recovering very well and his recovery rate is much higher than that of other patients. His Holiness' personal doctors said in a statement: "Many people were worried that this treatment and the healing process would be very painful. However, the pain is very slight and His Holiness is now able to walk. He is getting better every day".

His Holiness the Dalai Lama's personal physician, Doctor Tsetan Dorji Sadutshang, and his Tibetan personal doctor, Tsewang Tamdin, made a video statement on the situation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama after his knee operation on June 28, 2024.

Dr Tsetan said in the video: "Today is the fifth day since His Holiness the Dalai Lama underwent knee surgery. After assessing His Holiness, both his surgeon and physiotherapist said that he had made enormous progress. His recovery rate is much higher than that of other patients undergoing similar treatment".

"Many people were worried that this treatment and the healing process would be very painful. However, the pain is very slight and His Holiness can now walk. He is getting better every day", added the doctor.

Dr Tseten explains: "We are now considering moving His Holiness out of New York, to a more spacious and open location, with fresh air and natural scenery. Many people in Tibet and abroad are worried. I would like to urge them not to worry".

After Dr Tseten, Dr Tamdin said: "To all our Tibetan brothers and sisters, I would like to say Tashi Delek. As the doctor said, His Holiness the Dalai Lama's knee operation went very well. Moreover, according to the investigative methods of the traditional Tibetan medical system, which involve examining pulse movements and analysing urine, His Holiness's condition is good and getting better every day. Therefore, there is no need to worry about His Holiness' state of health, and we ask you to feel at ease".
