Dharamshala: - The Obama administration Thursday, February 7, has called on the Chinese leadership in Beijing to allow Tibetan people in Tibet to express their grievances freely, and hold substantive dialogue with His Holiness the Dalai Lama's representatives to find a lasting solution to the problem in the Himalayan region.
'The Chinese government showed no sign of willingness to address the root causes of the self-immolations in Tibet, as it reinforced its crackdown on Tibetan regions in eastern Tibet on Thursday and arrested 70 Tibetans,' the Central Tibetan Administration based here in Dharamshala, India said on Friday.
US State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said: "We are deeply concerned about the overall deteriorating human rights situation in Tibetan areas, including not only the tragic self-immolations, but also that criminal laws have been used to deal with people who have associated with those people."
"There are deep grievances within the Tibetan population which are not being addressed openly and through dialogue by the Chinese Government," Ms Nuland said.
"In almost every encounter we have at a senior level with Chinese officials we raise our concerns about human rights in general, about Tibet specifically," said Nuland.
"We urge the Chinese Government to engage in a substantive dialogue with the Dalai Lama or his representative without preconditions as a means of addressing the grievances that the people of Tibet have and to relieve tensions," she added.
"we continue to call on Chinese Government officials to permit Tibetans to express their grievances freely, publicly, and peacefully, without fear of retribution," she further said.

The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), an elected body of Tibetan people based in Dharamshala says the Chinese leadership solely responsible for the growing unrest and deteriorating situation in Tibet. It believe the world cannot remain a silent witness to this growing tragedy in Tibet.
