A Buddhist monk arrested in Sershul County of eastern Tibet

Dza chu khaDharamshala: A Buddhist monk from Shershul County-Eastern Tibet has been arrested by Chinese authorities, for carrying out a protest on April 8, calling the return of His Holiness the Dalai lama to his homeland.

According to Jigdrel Tenzin, a Tibetan man who lives in India, but has close contact in the region, Thupge-who is a 20-year old monk from Mang-ge monastery carried out a lone protest at around 3.30am local time in the Karze region- Shershul Countyof eastern Tibet.

During the protest Thupge, who is said to have keen interests in the Tibetan cause, called for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. When Chinese authorities reached the scene they immediately arrested him and took him into their custody.

Thupge- the son of Migyur and Yiga- is a native of Mang-ge village in the Karze region; his current condition and whereabouts remain unknown.
