Dharamshala: - The Chinese authorities have arrested a young Tibetan monk after he carried out a peaceful protest at the center of Serta (Chinese: Seda) township, eastern Tibet.
Sources told the Tibet Post Internaitonal (TPI) that the monk called for the return of the spiritual leader of Tibetan people, His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet, when he was marching into his township.
"On January 27, around 10:30am local Tibetan time, Phuntsok Jongney, a Buddhist monk, around his 20s staged a brief protest to against the Chinese government's repressive policies in Tibet," according to a latest information received from inside eastern Tibet.
The sources further said that "Phuntsok shouted slogans for Tibet and called for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the spiritual leader's return to his homeland Tibet, during his protest in the county, very close to the statue of a Yellow Horse in Serta county in Karze (Chinese: Ganzi), eastern Tibet.".
Another source said that his name is "Kunchen," However, his current condition and whereabouts are unknown.
"Puntsok has managed to distributed several prayer leaflets or wind-horse flags and marched into the township," according to the sources from inside the region.
"Around 30 armed Chinese paramilitary personnel immediately arrived at the scene and they detained him and severely beat him before taking him away," said the sources from inside the region.
He is a monk of Gephel Ling Monastery in Serta county, eastern Tibet. His father's name is Losher and mother's name is Chukpo.
The sources also stated that numbers of Chinese security personnel are increasingly deployed and security very tightened in the town and surrounding areas after the peaceful protest."
