Dharamshala: - On December 3, Chinese authorities in the Amchuk area, Ahmdo region arrived at Bhora monastery and demanded that five monks, Geden Gyatso, Lobsang Phakpa, Jamyang Zopa, Jamyang Lodhu, and Jamyang Gyatso be handed over for immediate investigation.
The five were taken to Bhora village and have since disappeared. It is believed that police demanded the investigation of these monks in connection with the self-immolation of Sungdue Kyag, which occurred the day before, December 2.
Durkbey, a source in Dharamshala who was born in Bhora village, was able to provide details about these five disappeared monks.
Genden Gyatso, age 47, is from Lhabum Thang village. He is the son of Sonam Tso.
Lobsang Phakpa is from Jangga village, and is the son of Karjam Jyal and Cheochung. Before 2010 he resided at Kirti monastery in Ngaba County, but was forced by Chinese authorities to move to Bhora.
Jamyang Zopa, from Bhugtsa village, is the son of Jamyang Gyatso and Kuncheo Kyi.
Jamyang Lodhu, age 20, is the son of Dukar and was born in Tsasa village.
Jamyang Gyatso, also around 20 years old, is from Upper Nurlong village and is the son of Nyachak Cham and Lumo Tso.
The reasons for the investigation of these monks, as well as their current whereabouts, remain unknown.
