Dharamshala: On December 8 at around 4.35pm (Tibet time) a Tibetan man, Pema Dorjee, reportedly self-immolated in front of Shitsang monastery, Luchu county, Amdho region, northeastern Tibet.
The Tibet Post International's source, Sonam, wrote on Facebook that, after setting himself on fire, Pema called for the return of His Holiness the Dalai to Tibet, for Tibetan people to have charge of Tibet, for an independent Tibet, and for Tibetans to unite.
Shitsang monastery is reportedly now surrounded by Chinese police and military. The details and status of Pema's family are currently unclear.
The number of self-immolations in Tibet since 2009 now stands well into the 90s.
